Gifts for runners: their marathon on a poster, and a word to carry on race day

A runner already has the shoes, the watch and a drawer full of finisher medals. What they rarely have is the race itself on the wall, and that is what the marathon poster gives them: the race name in large letters, their route on the map with a marker every 5 km, then their name, official finish time, pace and bib number, with the elevation profile along the bottom. The route comes from the GPX file their watch recorded, or straight from their Strava account. If they would rather be on trails than city streets, the route poster draws the outing with its climbing instead. Before race day, a bracelet does the encouraging: one engraved word — Breathe, Steady, Brave — on the wrist when the legs start to go. And the finish line fits in two lines of GPS coordinates. Each bracelet is laser-engraved to order at our Aveyron workshop, and each poster is printed in France.

Frequently asked questions

What is a good gift for a marathon runner after their first race?

The race itself, on a poster: their route on the map with a marker every 5 km, their name, official finish time, pace and bib number. Unlike more kit, it is something they cannot already own, and it stays on the wall long after the medal has gone into a drawer.

Can the marathon poster be made without their GPX file?

It needs the route. Ask them to export the run as a GPX file from the Strava website or their watch app, or to connect their own Strava account in the editor. The official time and the bib number are in the results the race organisers publish.

Does it work for a half marathon, a 10K or a trail?

Yes. The marathon poster offers five events — 5 km, 10 km, half marathon, marathon, or another distance — and prints the official distance, so a parkrun PB fits the 5 km. For a trail, where the climbing counts for more than the clock, the route poster suits better: it prints distance, duration and elevation gain under the track.

What should you engrave on a bracelet to encourage a runner?

A short word they can repeat to themselves in the last kilometres: Breathe, Steady, Brave, or one that belongs to the two of you. The one-word bracelet engraves it in script or in capitals — one word, ten letters at most — with an optional symbol above it, on a cherry wood bead that does not get in the way on a run.

How far ahead should I order?

Allow ten days for Ireland and the rest of the EU: 48 h in the workshop, then the journey from Aveyron. The marathon poster is ordered after the race, once the route and the official time are known; the encouragement bracelet, ten days before the start.
