Sunrise, sunset, solar noon and height are calculated for the place and day you choose, in local time (daylight saving included). The sky is painted from the Sun’s real height at every hour: it is the Sun’s path under a clear sky, not the weather.
The arc of the Sun on the day and at the place you choose, in a sky painted from its real height at every hour: sunrise, solar noon, sunset, length of day, highest point and evening golden hour, worked out in local time. A place, a date, one or two names: no time or weather to look up.
First the object — medium, size, frame — then its content, which you watch take shape in the preview.

Full description
What time did the sun rise on your wedding day? And set on the evening you met? The light of that day, drawn: the arc of the Sun across its sky, from dawn to dusk, with the horizon, the hours, and a sky painted from the Sun’s real height at every moment — midnight blue, the coral of sunrise, the gold of the golden hour, the blue of day. Underneath, the marks: sunrise, solar noon, sunset, the length of the day, the Sun’s highest point and the evening golden hour.
You give a date, a place, one or two first names and, if you like, a line. Everything is calculated for that place and that day, in local time — daylight saving included: nothing is made up, and another place gives another light. Beyond the polar circles the poster says “midnight sun” or “polar night” rather than invent a time. Four styles: Dawn, Dusk, Blueprint, Ink.
- 250 g matte paper, pigment inks, printed to order.
- Five sizes: A4, 30 × 40, 40 × 60, 50 × 70 and 70 × 100 cm.
- Optional wooden frame on the A4 and 30 × 40, black, white or natural.
- Or the print-ready file: all five sizes, each as a PDF and a 300 dpi PNG, by download link.

Frequently asked questions
What is an original gift for a wedding, a birth or a first date, with only a date and a place?
A “The light of our day” poster: the arc of the Sun on the day and at the place you choose, in a sky painted from the Sun’s real height at every hour, with sunrise, sunset, solar noon, the length of the day, the Sun’s highest point and the evening golden hour. All it takes is a place, a date and one or two first names; it is made to order.
How do I find the time of sunset on our wedding day?
Type the place, search for it, then pick the date: the poster works out sunrise and sunset for that place and that day, in local time, daylight saving included. Galway on 16 June 2018, for example: sunrise 05:08, sunset 22:06. Another place, even on the same day, gives other times.
Are the times accurate?
They are calculated with NOAA’s astronomical equations and checked against published values for several cities: the difference is a minute, sometimes two. Sunrise and sunset are those of the Sun’s upper edge over a clear horizon, atmospheric refraction included; a hill or a building hiding the horizon will delay or advance them on the spot.
What is the golden hour on the poster?
It is the period when the Sun is less than 6° above the horizon: the low, orange light photographers wait for. That limit is a convention, and other sources use a nearby one. The poster prints the evening golden hour and also highlights the morning one on the arc.
What do “highest point” and “solar noon” mean?
Solar noon is the moment the Sun is highest in the sky; it rarely falls at 12:00, because of the time zone, daylight saving and where the place sits in its zone. The highest point is the angle of the centre of the Sun above the horizon at that moment: just over 60° in Galway in June, about 13° in December.
What happens near the pole, beyond the Arctic or Antarctic Circle?
The poster says so instead of inventing a time: “midnight sun” on days when the Sun does not set, “polar night” on days when it does not rise. The arc is drawn in full, and only the marks that exist that day are written: solar noon and the heights.
Do I need the time of the birth or of the wedding?
No. Sunrise, sunset and the length of the day depend only on the place and the date. The time is never asked for.
Does the poster show what the weather was like?
No: it shows the Sun’s path, calculated for a clear sky, not the weather. That day’s clouds are not drawn. For the temperature and the weather of the day, see the “What was the weather like?” poster.
Can I pick a future date, or a very old one?
Yes, from 1900 to 2100: a wedding can be given before the day. For an old date, the legal time of the period (wartime daylight saving, for instance) may differ from what the international time-zone database gives, which is reliable mainly since the 1970s.
Is what I see what I will receive?
Yes: the preview is built by the same editor as the print, and a “Check your poster” screen opens before the basket. The line at the bottom is printed exactly as written: you can change it or clear it.
Which sizes and frames?
A4, 30 × 40, 40 × 60, 50 × 70 and 70 × 100 cm: standard frame sizes, easy to find. Optional wooden frame on the A4 and 30 × 40, in black, white or natural, with acrylic glass; the larger sizes ship rolled, to frame at home.
What paper is the poster printed on?
250 g/m² satin matte paper, lightfast pigment inks. Printed to order in our workshop in Aveyron, whatever the size. Shipped rolled, in a sturdy long cardboard box; the A4 travels flat, in a stiff card envelope.
Can I get the file instead of the poster?
Yes. The print-ready file contains all five sizes, each as a PDF and as a 300 dpi PNG — ten files in all, by a download link sent after payment, to print wherever you like.
How long does it take?
Your poster is dispatched within 48 hours, then delivered in six to seven days to Ireland and the rest of the EU (four to five in France) — to your home or a pickup point, home delivery only for the 50 × 70 and 70 × 100. For a fixed date, allow ten days outside France. The download link for the print-ready file is sent as soon as payment is confirmed.
