Full description

A family painted in watercolour from their photo: parents, children, grandparents, and the family pet if it is in the picture — their faces, their smiles, their clothes, a soft wash of colour around them and a few splashes, on textured paper. The family name, or the first names, can be written underneath, with a line of text if you like: a year, a few words.

It makes a gift for grandparents, for Christmas, for a new home, for a new arrival in the family: the photo of everyone, turned into something to hang on the wall.

You upload their photo, choose a palette — sage and ochre, powder pink, ocean blue or terracotta — and their portrait appears in about thirty seconds. You see what will be printed before you order: that image, and no other, is the one that goes to print. The portrait is made by an artificial intelligence, and a likeness is not guaranteed; the photo is never published, and we delete it thirty days after your order ships — or after purchase, for the print-ready file.

  • 250 g matte paper, pigment inks, printed to order.
  • Five sizes: A4, 30 × 40, 40 × 60, 50 × 70 and 70 × 100 cm.
  • Optional wooden frame on the A4 and 30 × 40, black, white or natural.
  • Or the print-ready file: all five sizes, each as a PDF and a 300 dpi PNG, by download link.

The poster, once printed

  • A mother, her daughter and their Labrador sit beneath the Martin family’s framed portrait; the poster is shown in French
  • Two parents hold their family watercolour portrait on a sofa beside their Labrador; the poster is shown in French

Frequently asked questions

What does the watercolour family portrait poster show?

A family painted in watercolour from their photo: parents, children, grandparents, and the family pet if it is in the picture, with their faces, their smiles and their clothes, surrounded by a soft wash of colours and a few splashes, on textured paper. The family name, or the first names, can be written underneath in a handwritten script, with an optional line of text: a year, a few words. Four palettes to choose from: sage and ochre, powder pink, ocean blue or terracotta.

Which photo should I choose for the portrait?

A sharp photo where every face is clearly visible, head-on or three-quarter view, well lit, with everyone in the same picture. A holiday, Christmas or family-party photo usually works: the background disappears and only the family is painted. A phone photo is enough — JPG, PNG or WEBP, up to 25 MB.

Is the portrait made by artificial intelligence?

Yes. An artificial intelligence paints the portrait from your photo in about thirty seconds: it is not a hand-painted work. You see the result before you order, and exactly that image is what we print, in our workshop in Aveyron — nothing is redone or retouched between the screen and the paper.

What if the portrait doesn’t look like my family?

You get three tries per photo, with the palette of your choice; a sharper, head-on, well-lit photo usually gives a better result. The name is written separately: you can change it at any time without redoing the portrait. The portrait is painted by an artificial intelligence, so a likeness is not guaranteed. Once the order is placed, the portrait you saw is the one that is printed; like any personalised poster, it cannot be returned, except for a fault or an error on our side.

How many people can be in the photo, and what about the family pet?

In our tests, a family of four with their dog and seven people around a table, were both painted with everyone included. The more people there are, the smaller each face becomes, and the less it looks like them: beyond seven people, or in a photo taken from a distance, the result is not guaranteed. You see it before you order, with three tries per photo.

How do I give this portrait to grandparents as a surprise?

Ask one of the parents for the family photo, or use one from a meal, a wedding or a holiday: a single picture where everyone can be seen clearly. You see the portrait before you pay: if it doesn’t look like the family, try another photo rather than giving it as it is. For a gift from everyone, write the family name underneath, and a year as the line of text.

Can I write a family name or a year under the portrait?

Yes: under the family name or the first names, an optional line of text of up to 48 characters, for example “At Grandma’s” or “All together”. It is written in handwriting, smaller than the name, and you see it before you order.

What happens to the photo I upload?

It is only used to make your poster. It is stored in a private space, never published, and we delete it thirty days after shipping — or after purchase, for the print-ready file — along with the painted portrait. Location data in a phone photo is removed as soon as it is uploaded. To be painted, the photo is sent to an artificial intelligence service (Google), which receives it for that purpose only.

Which sizes and frames?

A4, 30 × 40, 40 × 60, 50 × 70 and 70 × 100 cm: standard frame sizes, easy to find (IKEA, HEMA, Action, Desenio). Optional wooden frame on the A4 and 30 × 40, in black, white or natural, with acrylic glass; the larger sizes ship rolled, to frame at home.

What paper is the poster printed on?

250 g/m² satin matte paper, lightfast pigment inks. Printed to order in our workshop in Aveyron, whatever the size. Shipped rolled, in a sturdy long cardboard box; the A4 travels flat, in a stiff card envelope, and a framed poster in a cardboard box.

Can I get the file instead of the poster?

Yes. The print-ready file contains all five sizes, each as a PDF and as a 300 dpi PNG — ten files in all, by a download link sent after payment, to print wherever you like.

How long does it take?

Printed within 48 hours, then delivered to your home or a pickup point — home delivery only for the 50 × 70 and 70 × 100. The download link for the print-ready file is sent the same day.
