The house photo

Choose a sharp daytime photo taken from the front or at a three-quarter angle, with the whole façade in view: roof, windows, shutters, door. A big tree or the garden right beside the house can stay; the sky, the street, cars and passers-by disappear.

Private photo, never published, deleted thirty days after shipping (or after purchase, for the print-ready file). The painted portrait is deleted with it.

Their portrait

The portrait is painted by an artificial intelligence from your photo, in about thirty seconds. Each photo gives you three tries; the image you see is the one that will be printed.

Full description

Your house, painted in watercolour from its photo: the façade, the roof, the shutters, the front door, the garden and sometimes the big tree right beside it, a soft wash of colour around it and a few splashes, on textured paper. The name of the house or the family can be written underneath, with a line of text if you like: “since 2014”, a town, an address.

It makes a gift for a housewarming, for buying a first home, for leaving the family home when it is being emptied, or for the grandparents’ house where everyone gathers — and the one you give yourself the day you move in. The sky, the street, the cars and the passers-by disappear; the façade stays, with its roof, its windows and its colours.

You upload the photo of the house, choose a palette — sage and ochre, powder pink, ocean blue or terracotta — and its portrait appears in about thirty seconds. You see what will be printed before you order: that image, and no other, is the one that goes to print. The portrait is made by an artificial intelligence, and a likeness of the façade is not guaranteed; the photo is never published, and we delete it thirty days after your order ships — or after purchase, for the print-ready file.

  • 250 g matte paper, pigment inks, printed to order.

How it works

  1. You choose a palette

Sage and ochre, powder pink, ocean blue or terracotta: it only changes the colours of the wash around the house.

  2. You upload a photo of the house

A daytime photo taken from the front or at an angle, showing the whole façade. The portrait appears in about thirty seconds.

  3. Order what you've seen

The image on screen is the one we print, in our workshop in Aveyron. You get three tries per photo.

  4. We print in Aveyron

To order, on 250 g matte paper: in our Aveyron workshop, whatever the size, and every poster is checked there before it ships. Or you receive the download link for the file by e-mail.

Frequently asked questions

What does the watercolour house portrait poster show?

A house painted in watercolour from its photo, with its façade, roof, windows, shutters and front door, surrounded by a soft wash of colour and a few splashes, on textured paper. The name of the house or the family can be written underneath in handwritten lettering, with an optional line of text: a year, a town, an address. Four palettes to choose from: sage and ochre, powder pink, ocean blue or terracotta.

Which photo should I choose for the house portrait?

A sharp daytime photo taken from the front or at a three-quarter angle, showing the whole façade from roof to door. Landscape or portrait both work: in our tests the house was painted in the centre of the poster either way. A phone photo is enough — JPG, PNG or WEBP, up to 25 MB. We have not tried night photos or photos taken from far away: with three tries per photo, you see the result before you order.

Is the portrait made by artificial intelligence?

Yes. An artificial intelligence paints the portrait from your photo in about thirty seconds: it is not a hand-painted work. You see the result before you order, and exactly that image is what we print, in our workshop in Aveyron — nothing is redone or retouched between the screen and the paper.

What if the portrait doesn’t look like my house?

What we aim to keep is the façade: the shape of the roof, the number and position of the windows, the colour of the shutters and the door, the material of the walls. In our tests — a stone house with a slate-like roof, a rendered 1990s house, a half-timbered thatched cottage, a chalet, a brick house, a terraced town house, a Haussmann-style apartment building — these generally carried over; fine details get simplified. You have three tries per photo with the palette of your choice, and the name is written separately, so you can change it without repainting. The portrait is painted by an artificial intelligence, so a likeness is not guaranteed. Once the order is placed, the portrait you saw is the one that is printed; like any personalised poster, it cannot be returned, except for a fault or an error on our side.

What happens to what’s around the house?

The sky, the street, cars, power poles and cables disappear: a house portrait is painted on a wash of colour, not on a landscape. The garden and flower beds right up against the façade generally stay, and so does a large tree — in more than half of our tests. Passers-by in the distance disappeared, but people posing in front of the door are painted with the house, and neighbouring houses attached to yours stay, faded. To get the house on its own, crop the photo close.

How do I give this portrait for a housewarming or a first home?

Ask one of the residents for a photo of the façade — or take one yourself when you pass, in daylight, from the front. You see the portrait before you pay: if you don’t like it, try another photo rather than giving it as it is. Write the name of the house or the family underneath and, as the line of text, “Our home · since 2014” or the town. For the day the keys are handed over, the print-ready file arrives by download link within the day.

Can an estate agent or a notary give it to clients?

Yes, as long as you have a photo of each house: the poster is only made from an uploaded photo, one per client, and we don’t compose anything from a list. Each portrait is made and checked on screen before it is ordered; several different posters fit in a single basket, and the invoice can be made out to the company, with payment by bank transfer. We have no volume discount and no quotes; for a large order or a date to meet, write to us.

What can be written under the portrait?

The name of the house or the family (36 characters at most) in handwritten lettering, for example “The Lindens” or “The Martins’ place”, and an optional line of text of up to 48 characters: “Our home · since 2014”, a town, an address. A house number or sign that is legible in the photo is not guaranteed to appear in the portrait: write it as the line of text instead. You see everything before you order.

What happens to the photo I upload?

It is only used to make your poster. It is stored in a private space, never published, and we delete it thirty days after shipping — or after purchase, for the print-ready file — along with the painted portrait. Location data in a phone photo is removed as soon as it is uploaded. To be painted, the photo is sent to an artificial intelligence service (Google), which receives it for that purpose only.

Which sizes and frames?

A4, 30 × 40, 40 × 60, 50 × 70 and 70 × 100 cm: standard frame sizes, easy to find (IKEA, HEMA, Action, Desenio). Optional wooden frame on the A4 and 30 × 40, in black, white or natural, with acrylic glass; the larger sizes ship rolled, to frame at home.

What paper is the poster printed on?

250 g/m² satin matte paper, lightfast pigment inks. Printed to order in our workshop in Aveyron, whatever the size. Shipped rolled, in a sturdy long cardboard box; the A4 travels flat, in a stiff card envelope, and a framed poster in a cardboard box.

Can I get the file instead of the poster?

Yes. The print-ready file contains all five sizes, each as a PDF and as a 300 dpi PNG — ten files in all, by a download link sent after payment, to print wherever you like.

How long does it take?

Printed within 48 hours, then delivered to your home or a pickup point — home delivery only for the 50 × 70 and 70 × 100. The download link for the print-ready file is sent the same day.
